IEMA Conference 1st and 2nd November

Director Barry Moore and Senior Landscape Architect Richard Waddell attended the conference and manned the Moore Environment exhibition for the 2 day event. The QEII Conference centre offered the most magnificent views over Westminster .

Barry and Richard attended a number of useful seminars.

The first day focussed on the transition to a low carbon economy including the de-carbonising of electricity and the implications for the UK’s investment in infrastructure.

The second day was about transforming practice within businesses to make the most of environmental opportunities and securing competitive advantage. Presentations were given by environmental managers from Marks and Spencer and Pepsico.

·         Richard and Barry were able to attend several useful seminars including:-
·         Public consultation
·         Climate change and EIA
·         Legal compliance
·         Case law in environmental assessments
·         Natural carbon capture and storage
·         EA guidance on SEA and climate change
·         Soft systems thinking
·         Introduction to ISO 14000

Early feedback from the IEMA has been very positive and they consider they have delivered their best conference so far.

Social Enterprises Breakfast Event

Richard then rose to an early morning wake up call on Thursday 4th November to make our first attendance at the 'Find it in Birmingham' Breakfast Networking Event. This month's event focussed on the benefits of working with 'Social Enterprises' and was held at the ICC in Birmingham from 6:45am to 9am. These early morning events are a great way to network with other great Midland based businesses and free bacon and egg baps finish off the experience. The next event is taking place on the 2nd December at the ICC and will focus on Social Housing.

Lichfield First Thursday Networking Event

Following the Social Enterprises Breakfast Event, Richard moved on to a new venue in Lichfield to make our first attendance at the Lichfield First Thursday Networking Event. This event is a privately run network of professionals, getting together on the first Thursday of every month (hence the imaginative name for the group), with a view to forging connections for mutual professional benefit. Lunch was comprised of Bacon & Egg Staffordshire Oatcakes (more bacon & egg) and some hearty discussions. The next event will take place in Lichfield on the 2nd December. If you would like an invite to come along and meet other members of the group, or you would like to know more about future events we are attending please contact Richard at r.waddell@moore-environment.co.uk.
